A Sanctuary for Animals Others Couldn’t Help

At Don’t Forget Us, Pet Us in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, many of the animals who arrive have already exhausted other options. Some come with injuries, congenital deformities, amputations, or degenerative conditions that make traditional placement impossible. Instead of being overlooked, these animals become part of what we call the Herd of Hope—a group of sanctuary residents living with disabilities who receive ongoing care, safety, and dignity.

The sanctuary is home to around 40 animals across multiple species, many of whom require specialized care and support. Located in the South Coast Massachusetts community, the farm has become known as a refuge for animals whose needs are too complex for most facilities.

Meet Members of the Herd of Hope

The Herd of Hope represents animals from many backgrounds and circumstances. Each resident has their own story and care needs.

Special-Needs Sheep

Some sheep at the sanctuary live with mobility limitations or chronic health challenges that require adaptive care.

Goats with Mobility Challenges

Several goats have arrived with injuries or conditions that require modified environments and ongoing monitoring.

Senior Horses and Ponies

Older equines sometimes arrive after years of work or neglect, needing a peaceful and permanent home.

Rescued Farm Animals Across Species

Pigs, cows, and other livestock also live at the sanctuary, each receiving individualized attention based on their health and mobility needs.

Together, these animals represent the broader mission of the sanctuary: providing lifelong care for animals who might otherwise have nowhere safe to go.

More Than One Story

Some sanctuary residents gain attention because their stories highlight the realities of disability care. But the Herd of Hope is about far more than a single animal or headline. Across the farm, animals of different species and backgrounds receive daily care designed around their specific needs.

Supporting the sanctuary helps ensure every member of the herd continues receiving the attention, veterinary care, and stable environment they depend on.

Where Donations Go

Caring for animals with disabilities requires consistent resources. Donations help support essential needs such as:

  • Feed and hay for sanctuary residents
  • Veterinary treatment and medications
  • Farrier services and hoof care
  • Habitat maintenance and safe living spaces

Every contribution helps sustain the lifelong care model that defines the sanctuary’s work.
